Birth of Our Wildflower

Our little caboose is our wild flower; beautiful and able to stand on her own; delicate yet strong.  We were excited to welcome a girl into our hearts and lives and she doesn’t disappoint.  From her dancing as a young toddler to singing her night time bible songs it is so fun to watch her beautiful spirit.

It was exciting to find out we were pregnant with a girl for we, grandparents and the boys would have a baby sister.  Amanda had been using oils and more natural approaches to health. With the experience of pregnancy and birth of our boys, things went smoothly over all. Kelly, our midwife had delivered our third and we appreciated her calm support. We looked forward to listening to her growing heartbeat and going to get a sonogram with the boys so we could all see her for the first time.

It is always exciting when the arrival is near, Amanda was having consistent strong contractions and called our photographer Anna and our midwife Kelly to let them know.  We were expecting her soon but like any wildflower you don’t usually pick the time or place and M wasn’t quite ready yet. A few days later Amanda was having strong consistent contractions again but wasn’t sure if it was time yet.  We waited patiently and anxiously (well daddy was anxious at least).  We didn’t want to call Anna and Kelly on a false alert again so we timed contractions and waited.  When I saw Amanda on her knees rocking her hips I knew this was the time. We called Anna and Kelly and let them know and they headed our way.

I filled the birth tub and began boiling water because we needed lots of hot water to add to the birth tub with #3s birth.  The boys were in bed and everything was calm, although our dog Lily knew something was going on.  Amandas contractions were getting stronger and closer and she moved to the birthing tub.

After a few minutes and more contractions Amanda said “You’re gonna have to help me.”  I really didn’t know what she meant other than supporting her during contractions but I soon realized M was coming out!   I helped catch her and hold her in the birth tub with my head whirling.  We had the experience of the other births so once she was out I was focused on holding her, then cradling and holding her head above the water once she was up and out and untangling her cord. Her little cry was a welcome sound knowing her lungs were strong.  Amanda asked if it really was a girl (since we were used to having boys).  I was so focused on holding her up, unwrapping the cord and welcoming another baby I didn’t even check if it was a girl!

While holding our new little girl I helped Amanda get positioned outside the birth tub, still attached with the umbilical cord.  I called Kelly who was still delayed in heavy rain to let her know Baby was here.  She said she could hear M crying in the background so she said all is good.  Amanda and I enjoyed a few moments of just us with our new joy.

After Kelly arrived I cut the umbilical cord, we measured and weighed her.  I got the 3 boys up in the middle of the night to welcome her. They were all excited to meet their sister and hold her.  Soon we were all back to resting for the night and beginning our journey of 6.

New Resolution

So I was encouraged/inspired last week at MOPS to do a better job of keeping track of our pictures and stories. While thinking about how much time has already passed it feels rather discouraging but there’s no better time to start than the present. I use to make scrapbooks but I am also overwhelmed by the thought that my days are already so full with 3 boys, including a newborn, homeschooling and business but I’m resolving to figure out a way!

Update – At the end of every year I started making a photo “yearbook”. We have loved having an actual photo book of each year to look back through.

Highlights & Challenges of 2014: Pregnancy, Home and Family Life

Highs and lows of navigating life this year so far.

January – Got pregnant with #3 after making some health changes and seeing a holistic chiro.

February – Found out we were pregnant with # 3 due in Oct.
Took the boys to Destin, FL and stopped to see family in Alabama on the way.
Knocked the rock wall out of the dining room and pulled up the old wood tile.

March – Went to my first homeschooling convention.

April – Potty trained G.
   Got our first chicks.
Went to Devils Den State Park in Arkansas. Walked the trails and took the boys to their first cave at War Eagle.

May – Lost one of our apple trees in a windstorm and planted several more fruit trees to replace it.
Moved the chicks to their outdoor coop and run.
Finally got the solar panels up and running and connected to the electric company.
Bro in laws dog was hit and lost Mittens to an inoperable blockage.
Built boxes for our garden and planted tomatoes, peppers, beets, carrots, cucumber, radishes, sunflowers, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, blueberries, raspberries, rhubarb and several rows of pumpkins (the rows of pumpkins we planted all got eaten by squash bugs😔).
Found out at our gender reveal party we would be welcoming sweet baby boy #3.

June – I finally ordered a Young Living starter kit so I had an arsenal of high quality oils to give our family an extra boost in the health arena.

Went Blueberry picking with my sis in law.
Took the boys mini golfing at Paradise Park for the first time

July – Picked 15 tomato horn worms off our tomato plants and fed them to the chickens (they make great recyclers) 😅
We hosted our annual 4th of July party.
Went to Kauai just the two(I mean 3)of us. Took a catamaran around the coast, did lots of snorkeling, rented a mustang, saw and hung out with friends & family.

August – Started Kinder homeschooling with J.
Went to Destin, FL with some of the fam. Stayed in a condo. Rented a boat and drove to Shell island and saw lots of dolphins on the way back.

September – Got out first eggs from our chickens.
Bought the boys a bunk bed and got lots of things ready for the baby including needing to switch midwives in the last few weeks.
Corey injured his leg/back/hip pretty bad at work.

October – Finally welcomed baby boy #3 after my water had been leaking for about 36hrs before going into active labor. Active labor lasted about 1-2hrs and pushing stage almost 2 hours because he had his hand above his head. https://therewegrow.com/home-sweet-homebirth/

Royals went to the World Series.
Hosted our annual hayride/bonfire

And that pretty much brings us up to date…

Earache Be Gone

A few weeks back I had blogged about some of my favorite natural remedies but hadn’t remembered this one until yesterday, Oil of Oregano!
My ear had suddenly started acting up yesterday and I was in no mood to be dealing with an earache or infection. Actually I’m pretty sure I never am. I had put my usual tea tree oil and GSE mix in it but it wasn’t knocking it out fast enough. I remembered my oregano oil that I don’t just use for any occasion because its really strong and rolled it all around my ear. Sure enough it seems to have cleared right up. Sometimes you need western medicine but alot of times good ol natural remedies is all it takes!

:)

Here’s a site with some other great uses for it. http://curingherbs.com/wild_oregano_oil.htm
